Strand & Surrounding Areas
The Strand, is renowned for its long stretches of white, sandy beaches. Safe swimming, in warmer waters, has ensured its popularity as a prime holiday destination for water-sports enthusiasts. The beaches are ideal for swimming, sailing, surfing, boating, fishing, water skiing, windsurfing and much much more.
An evening stroll along the harbour wall at Gordon's Bay (just 5 minutes away), is sure to be rewarding as yachts and boats sail in the moor at the protected marina. Harbour cruises leave daily from the Gordon's Bay harbour.
Between June and December each year hundreds of Southern Right whales visit the sheltered, shallow bays of the South African coastline to calve and nurture their offspring. Many of these mammals visit False Bay each year and the best place to spot them are at official whale watching spots found a mere 15 minutes away, on the coastal road from Gordan's Bay to Rooi Else. The world famous Hermanus where you are sure to see these magnificent creatures is just 25 minutes away.
The Country Craft Market in Somerset West is becoming well-known worldwide for its many handcrafted items. There are over 200 stalls, all manned by the crafters themselves.
The Helderberg Nature Reserve has hiking trails for people of all ages and offers beautiful vistas, overnight lodges, idyllic picnic spots, over 90 species of birdlife and many varieties of fynbos.
